Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
