No professional sports organization sells equal footing as effectively as the NFL: it's their core marketing message. But through the first ten matchups in this campaign, this is not a competition with perfect equilibrium among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Looking at the NFC side, at least, there is some clarity. In the AFC however, postseason landscape is a jumbled mess. The current division frontrunners after ten games: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (all at 8-2) along with Pittsburgh (5-4). Take another look. Not the Chiefs. No Bills inclusion. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. The traditional powers, backed by premier quarterback talent, display either glaring roster weaknesses or have suffered medical setbacks.

To some extent, this represents the NFL's perfect scenario. However, witnessing this year’s four division leaders in the AFC continues to seem unusual. Areas of each team pass the championship smell test, though not comprehensively. Colts Situation

Currently they're inexperienced, speedy and bold. However, we must acknowledge how soft the Patriots’ schedule has been. They've encountered the most manageable schedule across the NFL, yet vulnerabilities remain. Drake Maye has taken sacks on 35 occasions – the second-most in football – and some of the shots he suffered last weekend were vicious. As the season progresses, those beatings accumulate.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are eight wins similarly, and it still feels like they're nervously waiting. Bo Nix has shown inconsistency, and the offense plodding, while the defensive unit provides all the heavy lifting. Without serviceable quarterback play, Denver cannot intimidate playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending in the Western division holding a 7-2 record, but the injuries along their offensive line will present challenges to mount a deep postseason tilt.

Steelers Examination

And then there’s Pittsburgh, somehow still leading the AFC North even after suffering a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers on Sunday night. Their scoring margin remains negative, their defensive unit frequently falters, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations given his veteran status continue to show up. They maintain a 5-4 record while surviving, yet Baltimore, featuring a recovered Jackson and facing easier opponents, have won three consecutive. We shouldn't be completely astonished that the Ravens have pulled the gap to just one game, but that it has arrived so quickly represents criticism toward the Steelers' uneven performances. The fact Baltimore began with a 1-5 record and still look like likely to claim the title is telling about the entire AFC.

Established Contenders

The Ravens represent a segment within a trio of powerhouses – joined by Buffalo and Kansas City – powered by their MVP quarterbacks, who would still strike the highest anxiety for opponents if they qualified. They're the teams everyone hopes to avoid, yet Kansas City and Buffalo continue to self-destruct.

Buffalo Analysis

Previously, Buffalo was celebrating after beating the Chiefs. This weekend they encountered one of the most disappointing losses this year. They didn't simply fail against Miami; they were embarrassed, losing 30-13 as visitors. The Dolphins secured their first triumph versus Buffalo in several seasons.
