The British player made it to the third stage in three of the four major tournaments this year.

Emma Raducanu from Great Britain has pulled out of her final two events this season as a result of a health issue she has been fighting for the last week and a half.

At 22 years old was due to play in tournaments in Tokyo and Hong Kong but opted to return home to recover before starting plans for the 2026 season.

Her upcoming training will include her coach Francisco Roig, as they will keep partnering again next season.

Raducanu underwent blood pressure monitoring in her opening round versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and withdrew when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

Another medical visit was necessary a visit from the doctor at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round.

She was also playing far from freely in the third set in the match with Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.

Such performances signaled a promising season, in which she climbed into the top 30 globally for the first time in more than three years, concluded with three straight losses.

Raducanu had three match points before losing to Pegula in the third stage in the Beijing tournament last month.

The player achieved 28 victories in the current season and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her most impressive week was at the Miami event in March.

Ranked first in Britain advanced to the quarters of the WTA 1000 event, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed on the way prior to a loss in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.

Her coach was Mark Petchey as coach from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.

The original arrangement with the former trainer of Nadal was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with planned training sessions late this year.

She mentioned that the trial session alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as the meeting was kept under wraps.

She nearly succeeded to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati during August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three before being beaten by 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
