Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.

“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with results like these.”

He finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to the top, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
