Delhi Rises to Hazardous Haze Following Diwali

Persistent Environmental Problem

The dangerously high concentrations of atmospheric toxins in the capital have remained as a significant problem for over a decade and a half, with the condition continuing to worsen.

Near celebratory seasons, the amount of hazardous airborne contaminants in the air has been documented to increase dramatically to 70% higher the worst records ever measured in China's capital, which was once regarded as the planet's dirtiest city.

Various Pollution Contributors

The problem in the capital is attributed to a combination of different contributors including transportation pollution, construction debris, construction activities, garbage fires and smoke from farm burning in adjacent areas of farming communities.

Throughout these areas, agricultural workers routinely burn crop residue to clear them quickly, creating toxic smog that becomes contained over the capital as winter air sets in.
