Canada's Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."
The veteran has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto won the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
